Karen Shakhnazarov Film Is In the Oscars Long List

The White Tiger film by Karen Shakhnazarov is entered onto the Academy Awards long list.

Set during the hard times of the Great Patriotic War, the film tells a story of a Soviet officer's fight against the ghost Nazi tank.

Altogether there are over a hundred entries on the long list, many of them from the former Soviet Republics.

Russia previously won an Oscar four times: "War and Peace" by Sergei Bondarchuk, "Dersu Uzala" by Akira Kurosava (co-production of the USSR and Japan), "Moscow Does Not Believe In Tears" by Vladimir Menshov, and "Burnt by the Sun" by Nikita Mikhalko
